Tis the season not only to be busy but right out straight. There are the usual activities of daily life and, on top of that, holiday commitments to fulfill. No one gets more than twenty-four hours in a day, so where does that leave us? Who says we have all the time we need?
Well, I do. The thing I love about time? It levels the playing field. We all have the same number of hours. The rest is up to us. How we choose to spend it. How we act from the second our feet hit the floor in the morning to our last conscious thought. That is our call. Every moment of every day.
Under these circumstances, will we try to fit more into each day, or choose instead, to say yes to less? Let’s say yes to people, activities, and commitments because they fill us with love and life. Let the things we say yes to be what make us smile, give us energy, and allow us to feel expansive. Say yes because we mean yes. Not maybe, and definitely not no.
In this season of giving, remember…Say no as if you are giving a precious gift. Say it with a warm smile. Say it with love. No is the gift you give yourself. Accept that you can’t do everything for everyone. People need our kindness and love. When we say yes, and we really mean no, we give away too much and what’s left is often not our best self. Short words. Impatient gestures. Not how we want to be thought of today or any day.
We make our best decisions when we are feeling joyful. Gracious. Abundant. My mantra is “I have all the time I need.” I do and so do you. May you enjoy this season of light in the company of people you love.
